Hip Hop Dance SA presents Dance To Las Vegas 2012 in March, Cape Town. (Venue and date to be confirmed)
National qualifications in South Africa are conducted annually to determine who participates in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship and World Battles.
* The twelve top crews will be selected to represent South Africa in The World Hip Hop Championships.
* The (3) top crews from each age category will qualify and 3 crews from the Mega Crew section.
*In the Battle sections –12 Solo dancers will be selected to represent South Africa in The World Battles
Championships, top (4) from Locking, Popping and All Styles battles.
* Dance to Las Vegas will be conducted under the official rules and regulations of Hip Hop International –
see rules and regulations.

A crew consists of a minimum of five (5) to a maximum of eight (8) members.
The members of the crew may be made up of any combination of males or females.

A 12 year old turning 13 years within the competition year (by 12/31) may compete in the junior or varsity division.
Likewise a 17 year old turning 18 years within the competition year (12/31) can compete as a varsity or adult.

Mega Crews have a minimum of 15 and maximum 40 dancers, without any age restrictions and routines are min 3.5 minutes max 4 minutes. The members of the crew may be made up of any combination of males or females. |

- ORIGINAL LOCKING MOVEMENTS (Campbellocking Essence & Foundation)
- CHARACTER & CHARISMA (Eye contact and Interaction with environment)
- MUSICALITY (Pure Funk, Improvisation & Interaction with the music)
- STYLE & GRACE (Execution and Demonstration of body control through
balance, strength and range of motion)
- ATTITUDE (No fear, Confidence, High energy, Good sportsmanship. Ability to
experiment through improvisation and making any mistakes into something
meaningful, Focus on the music...not the moves)
- FLOOR WORK (Within the Locking vocabulary)
- STAGE PRESENCE (Entertainment quality/Performance/Audience connection)
- CREATIVITY (....Add your flavor, Be Extraordinary)
- COSTUMES (Within the Locking Style)
*There will be no point system for the battles. (Focus should be on the music not
your competition)
The judges will judge on each criteria separately.
The judges are looking for the person that encompasses all the above criteria
and therefore looking for the COMPLETE LOCKER.

• Competition is a learning tool. The results reflect hitting the judges' criteria.

through understanding. This competition is between you and your potential not

The All Styles Battle is a 1 on 1 Battle and is open to all dancers male and female. Dancers will be expected to dance impromptu to any style and beat of music selected by the Battle DJ. Judges will be assessing the quality of the performance, musicality, dance technique and the personality of the performer.
- 1-on-1 battle where each dancer will be challenged to dance to the unpredictable, varied beats of a live DJ
- The music genre will change for each dancer and can range from any genre of music such as rap, pop, break beats, funk, electronica, house music, etc...
- Each round will consist of 2 solo dancers who will battle one another facing each other
- During the preliminary round, the DJ will play one song for each of the 2 dancers.
- Each dancer in the preliminary round will have the opportunity to dance for ~ 1 minute
- There will be 32 open slots for this battle for the dancers to sign-up for (16 battles in the first round). A qualifying round may become necessary.
- Judges will choose 1 dancer from each round to advance to the next round until the battle progresses to 2 final dancers.
- The final 2 dancers will have 2 songs each to impress the judges
- Each dancer will be judged on his/her ARTISTIC CREATIVITY, his/her MUSICALITY, and his/her ABILITY to ENTERTAIN the JUDGES

More than two thousand of the world’s top street dancers will come together in Las Vegas for the 2012 World Hip Hop Dance Championship August 1-5. Crews and Megacrews from 40 nations will compete to capture the world title and international bragging rights. Hip hop icons, artists and celebrities will be there too for all the fun and excitement.
The 2012 World Battles – Breaking, Popping, Locking and All Styles Battle will be held in conjunction with the World Hip Hop Championship on Saturday, August 4. The World Battles are state of the art competitions for the world’s top bboys/girls, lockers, poppers and all stylers to represent their countries for world dominance.
